Robert V. Binder

Robert V. Binder is a results-oriented professional with over 27 years of technology management and software development experience, two advanced degrees, and an extensive publication list. He is internationally recognized as a leading expert in testing object-oriented software. He has worked with all major types of applications and software technologies. In addition to leading consulting engagments, Binder is responsible for all business development at RBSC. He launched RBSC's advanced automated testing practice in 1994, growing this business by a factor of 10 in the last three years.

He planned and facilitated many software process improvement engagements, concentrating on CASE tools, methodologies and project management. Binder developed sixty-five days of instructor-led professional development seminars in related subjects and presented them to thousands of developers in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Publications include Testing Object-Oriented Systems: Models, Patterns, and Tools (1999, Addison-Wesley Object Technology Series, 1098 pages) and Application Debugging (1985, Prentice-Hall, 358 pages.) He has published over forty articles in professional and refereed journals, including IEEE Software, IEEE Computer, Object Magazine, Journal of Software Testing, Verification, and Review, and the Communications of the ACM.

Binder has been a presenter and keynote speaker at many conferences, including: Chicago Software Process Improvement Network (CSPIN), European Systems and Software Initiative (ESSI), IEEE International Conference on Software Reliability Engineering (ISSRE), IFIP 14th International Conference on Testing Communicating Systems (TestCom 2002), International Conference on Testing Computer Software, JavaPlus, International Quality Week (US and Europe), Object Days (Technical University of Tampere, Finland), Object Expo, Object World, Pacific Northwest Software Quality Conference (PNWSWQ), Practical Software Quality Techniques (PSQT), Software Testing Analysis & Review (STAR), Quality Assurance Institute, and XML One.

He serves on the advisory board of Quality Week and on the OOPSLA program committee. He has been a reviewer for Addison-Wesley, Dorset House, Prentice-Hall, Van Nostrand, Wiley, and IEEE publications including the Transactions on Software Engineering.

Binder has an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He is an IEEE Senior Member and a member of the ACM.
