Software Testing Techniques. Boris Beizer, 1990. Order Now
The definitive book on software testing. Shows how to develop models for testing, summarizes related research. Quote: "Testing is like playing pool. There's real pool and there's kiddie pool. In kiddie pool you hit the balls, and whatever pocket they fall into you claim as the intended pocket ... There's real testing and there's kiddie testing. ... In real testing the outcome is predicted and documented before the test is run."

Black Box Testing. Boris Beizer, 1995. Order Now
Beizer's earlier work is concentrated into a highly readable package. The idea to produce test suites from an implementation-independent model of a system under test using several basic strategies.

Software Assessment: Reliability, Safety, Testability. Michael A. Friedman and Jeffery M. Voas, 1995. Order Now
A sophisticated approach to testing based on a unique statistical fault model. Offering a unique point of view on testability practical strategies to estimate probabilities of hard to find bugs. Quote: "Although we could belabor the problems of software testing and dismiss it as a chaotic process altogether, we will instead address the problem associated with the inability to test a program on every input and will also show the benefit that software testability can have on decreasing the impact of this problem."

Handbook of Software Reliability Engineering. Michael R. Lyu, (ed.), 1996. Order Now
This is a landmark book in software testing. It presents SRE (Software Reliability Engineering) practice and theory, and includes an excellent CD ROM with a previously unavailable collection of SRE software tools. SRE may be used to plan profile-based testing and to predict the field reliability of a system. Highly recommended.

The Practical Performance Analyst. Neil J. Gunther, 1998. Order Now
An engineering approach to software system performance analysis. Application-oriented quantitative techniques without overdoing theory, deals with real world scope/complexity, and provides stuff that works. The predictive models can be easily turned into test models.

The Art of Software Testing. Glenford J. Myers, 1979. Order Now
A classic. Quote: "A successful test case is one that detects an as-yet undiscovered error."
